This expansive hacienda in the heart of Ajijic, was renumbered Javier Mina “28” in 1997, when purchased by the owner who held many grand parties on its spacious veranda, most often to honor visiting classical musicians and Mexican artists.
However, its original number “2”, still listed on municipal records, denotes its vintage status as some 70 years old, when number “1” was a very long block away. It’s also well-known as the Casa del Pescado” for its fish-shaped swimming pool and fish-sculpture fountain. It began as a large two-bedroom home with a corral for horses, and was remodeled with a third bedroom and independent second floor apartment added. One of Ajijic’s most famous landscapers was hired to develop the lovely extensive garden seen today. The apartment was recently enlarged with solar electricity and solar pool heating was added, and further remodeling was completed in 2020. During these changes however, this home has been lovingly preserved as a gem of classic Mexican architecture with its high carriso and wood ceilings, tejas roof, and handmade tiles throughout the house.
