The Town of San Nicolas de Ibarra

San Nicolas de Ibarra directly translates to “Saint Nicholas of Ibarra”. It is a small town or village and quite similar to Santa Cruz de La Soledad – another town or village next to the Chapala Country Club and Vista del Lago.  It is quiet and inexpensive with fresh products like fruits and vegetables and meats.  You will find friendly people and nice weather.  Enjoy San Nicolas with enough of Mexico to make your experience enjoyable.

Location

It is located at about 30 minutes East from Ajijic and 5 minutes from Chapala.

Economic Activities

The main economic activity includes fishing and agriculture which is mainly based on corn. There are several locally owned restaurants.

Approximately 4000 inhabitants.

SEWER OR SEPTIC: City Sewer.

WATER SOURCE: Provided by municipal wells. Water may be limited during the driest months and many homes have an aljibe or cistern to help.

The water and sewer systems are provided by a government public organization called SIMAPA. You pay either yearly or monthly is you have a water meter.

Electricity

The company that supplies this service is CFE (Comision Federal de Electricidad).

Address: Zaragoza 451, Chapala, Jalisco.

Hours 8:00 am – 9:00 pm.

This service must be paid every 2 months and can be paid at the CFE office or in stores like Walmart, Soriana, OXXO and 7 Eleven.

CFE has different rates of power depending on the client’s needs:

  • Rate 01 Domestic use (regular house)
  • Rate 02 Business (stores in general)
  • Trifásico (business and regular house)
